He'll risk anything to be inside me. I'm his fated mate.

Lyla

What the hell am I thinking? I can't fall for a wolf. He's a criminal and an outcast. I'm an elite. If we get caught, they'll destroy us. I'll be disgraced. He'll be tortured and killed. But his wolf instinct has locked on me. He says I'm his fated mate. And every time we're alone together, he melts my heart ... and makes me so wet I'll risk anything to feel him throb inside me.

Zac

Everything they told me about fated mates is true. And that means I'm in a lot of trouble. I'm risking everything. As a shifter, I'm used to living on the edge. The regime wants me dead. But now it's so much more complicated. I'm obsessed with this girl. I can't get her out of my mind. I need to devour her, body and soul. I know I should resist, for her sake as much as my own, but I physically can't. My wolf lust has locked onto her. There's no way we get out of this alive, but one night inside her will be worth any punishment.

My Review:

City of Wolves is one of those books that you just don't know what it's going to happen next and all you can do is keep reading until the very end.

Lyla is an elite and soon to become an enforcer, her whole life she has been told to stay away from wolves. They are supposed to be criminals and outcasts that she needs to destroy to protect her family. When she finally gets the chance to see the outside world, all to attend a very prestigious academy in the city, things slowly start to change. For one thing, her mother has gotten her to agree to marry her own much older uncle all to protect the family legacy. Which I found interesting and a bit shocking knowing how much older her uncle is. Anyway, after losing her father, Lyla and her mother move into her uncle's home where she is watched by everyone around her. Not only is she now going to become an enforcer like her father, but she is also meant to save the family name as well. With too much at stake, she doesn't have time for anything else, but that rapidly changes when she hears a guy singing in the streets and everything soon spirals out of control in her life.

Zac is a shifter and orphan, he was adopted by Shay- a wolf who brought him as his own. Now that Zac and his best friend have come to the city, he knows that he doesn't have a chance to survive if he doesn't hide his identity. After a series of encounters with city officials, Zac finds himself invited to places no other shifter has ever been before. Yet that all soon changes when he meets Lyla, and he has to find a way to protect himself and the girl he loves. As the two spend more time together, they learn a lot about each other, that could potentially be dangerous for the both of them if they don't get out of the city before it's too late.

What I liked about the story was the twists and turns that we get throughout the book, the author does a good job bringing something new that will appeal to a lot of readers. Now what I did not like was how the pace of the book changed, it went from a good solid speed to rushing the very end. I found that Lyla was too quick to accept a lot of things that you would think that it would take one longer to process. It just didn't feel believable to me, which kind of made the end okay. I also had a bit of an issue with a age differences between the characters, not the two main characters, but between Lyla and her uncle.

But then again this is a dystopian book so anything is possible in the book. Aside from all of that, the story was unique and interesting to read. I really like the chemistry between Lyla and Zac, it's magnetic and sweet. Zac quickly became my favorite character in the book, he is protective and kind. He adores Lyla to the point that he'll risk his own life to be with her. On the other hand, Lyla was an okay character for me, she tends to doubt herself and accept whatever she hears very quickly which leads to her making the wrong decisions for most of the book. Some of her decisions don't even make sense at all, but she does love Zac and is also willing to risk anything to be with him. Overall the concept was great, I enjoyed reading the book and cannot wait to read what happens next with the characters. I would recommend it to those that are into werewolves/ dystopian books. :)
